Join us on the island of Spetses, huddled in the Saronic Gulf and easily accessible by Flying Dolphin from the port of Piraeus. Alternatively, you can also drive south from Athens to catch a ferry from Porto Heli. Please note you cannot bring your rental vehicle onto the island without special visa.
Spetses-town is a perfect example of whitewashed, vintage Greek island architecture built to withstand pirate attacks. The streets are a maze of tiny alleyways here and there, but you will soon be able to navigate your way around. Foot traffic is the most common, but there are horse-drawn buggies and mopeds for hire; buses and caciques are available to take us to several beaches and points-of-interest around the island.
Spetses was an integral part of the Greek rebellions that finally led Greece to Independence from the Ottoman Empire in 1821. HHYR will offer *optional* excursions to visit some key aspects of the islands rich history, as well as its wonderful horticulture, going for hikes to forage greens and herbs unique to the island.
Your HHYR retreat on Spetses will begin each day with a morning yoga flow by the pool, followed by a communal, vegetarian, traditional Greek breakfast. On days where we will be taking tours to archaeological sites or isolated beaches, the staff will pack us a vegetarian picnic lunch. These will be optional. Otherwise meal options are your own. The town boasts several tavernas specializing in seafood and local delicacies, as well as more international options such as Thai food or Italian cuisine.
